HANDY TIPS – Power Tripping? Hints & Tips

Firstly we need to recognise that Electricity is DANGEROUS & not to be tampered with

There are various causes / reasons behind your Electricity power tripping at home, to mention a few:

  • A faulty geyser
  • A faulty oven element
  • A faulty or wet kettle element
  • An overload to a circuit caused by too many appliances overloading the circuit
  • A general fault due to age / wear & tear
  • A break in a cable
  • A Loose connection
  • A faulty circuit breaker
  • Faulty wiring
  • A faulty appliance
  • There could even be area power shortages currently being experienced

There are a couple of safe steps you can take to try get your power to go back on

  • Check the main distribution board often found behind the front door or in a cupboard in the kitchen
  • Sometimes a switch is down & simply need to be switched up
  • Sometimes a switch seems to be up however it’s halfway up & needs to be charged down wards & back up to turn on
  • Proceed to un plug every appliance from every socket in the apartment or house (including kettles, PC’s. side lamps etc.)
  • Try switch the main switch back up & see if it holds & if so you are good to go for a process of elimination
  • One by one you can plug each appliance in, the power will trip again when you get to the faulty appliance (remove this from use)
  • If your power still trips without luck it may be that a bigger appliance like your hot water geyser is faulty causing a fault on the main DB board
